Abstract

ANKARA GEOPOLİTİCAL GEOSTRATEGİC POSİTİON İN HİSTORY: ANKARA CAPİTAL
The Anatolian geography can be compared to a castle surrounded by high and broad mountains. Ankara is located just in the middle of this castle which controls entrance and exit to it. By means of this peculiar feature Ankara has become the governing center of many states and ruling districts throughout history. Flourishing as the center of Galatians, Ankara was also a provincial capital during Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman Empires. We can attribute Ankara became the capital city when Turkish Republic was founded because of its role played throughout history by means of its geographical location and as a governmental unit.
